Christmas Wreath - Weihnachtskranz

Dear friends,

I love the Christmas Season, always have. Fairy lights, twinkling stars, candlelight, glittery ornaments everywhere, The Tree, cosy music, Gemütlichkeit, the thrill of anticipation, people being friendlier, joy and happiness all around, a smile on many faces. When you‘re out at night, you see lights everywhere, beacons of welcome and friendliness (just wait till the festive season is over – suddenly the world outside is dark and forbidding).

Be it as it may: I love the Advent and Christmas Season, but I‘m only allowed to start decorating the house from the 1st of December on. And NO Christmas music before this day either. Men… Sigh…

Don‘t ask me why, but this year I feel a deep longing for the festive season, I am yearning for all the above mentioned, and I find it very hard to restrain from getting Christmas ornaments out. So, yesterday I put some fairy lights up and two lighted stars in the window. The hubby couldn‘t but notice this on his return home from work, but he didn‘t say anything about it and that made me brave. I started working on a Christmas Wreath yesterday afternoon and finished it today. AND the hubby even hung it up (have I ever mentioned he is the best hubby of the world?).

So, the first Christmas ornament is up! Let‘s roll up our sleeves and get started on the rest…

I‘ll keep in touch!

Liebe Freunde,

Granny Square Tartan Blanket

Dear friends,

just imagine: One kilo of utterly gorgeous, scrumptious handdyed wool, a woollen dream of approximately 120 x 120 cm, warm and snug, butI do not like the colour-scheme…

Mind you: this is no disaster! Not liking the colours I will use the throw instead of watching over it like an overprotective mother lion. See, it has its benefits! But I surely wish I had chosen another colour-scheme...

I started working on the blanket on the 31st of October and finished it last night (15th of November). The border is made up of 4 rows of plain granite stitch (I even won at yarn chicken – only 2 meters of the burgundy wool left!).

After finishing the C2C Tartan Cushion (read here) I knew making a blanket using the C2C technique would drive me mad. After some pondering, I assumed I might get the desired effect using plain simple traditional granny squares joined in separate sections in a join-as-you-go granny technique too. Being too eager to get started, I didn‘t pay the usual attention to the choice of colours. They seemed OK at first, but as the first panel was finished, I started questioning my decision. Unfortunately I couldn‘t convince myself to stop and reconsider…

Max photobombing...

Ah well, be it as it may. I liked working on the blanket, it‘s an easy make and only takes about 18 hours to finish.
And as soon as I have restocked my dyes I can work out a more appealing colour-scheme.

I’ll keep in touch!

Liebe Freunde,

C2C Tartan Cushion / Kissen

Dear friends,

though I am still looking for a better way to translate tartan into crochet, I‘m pretty pleased with the C2C cushion I finished last night. I had made the front last weekend already, but I got carried away with more thistle crochet before I started on the back panels. And as I suddenly had the brilliant idea to make the buttons myself too, I had to order the supplies and wait for them to arrive.

But now the C2C Tartan Cushion is completed and looking good too.

If you‘d care to make one yourself, here‘s the chart. When you‘re a newby to the C2C technique, there are plenty of tutorials online. I quite appreciate the video tutorial by Carolyn of The Purple Poncho.

Happy crocheting!

I‘ll keep in touch!

Liebe Freunde,

Thistlemania

Dear friends,

I promised I would no longer start each blogpost with apologising for not posting more frequently, so I won‘t. I've been pretty busy lately. First I had but an abundance of ideas in my head but since August I am realising many of them. Too many really and all at the same time, cause I suddenly got problems coping. I got overwhelmed with day job, crafts, household, behind-the-scenes-project(s), new collections, tutorials, Etsy, admin stuff, technical issues … But I perceived what was going on and I took the appropriate actions.

I‘m Dreaming Of A White Christmas…

Dear friends,

I know, many may find I‘m out of my mind thinking of Christmas at the end of September. Maybe I am, but truth be told: I‘ve been in some kind of Christmas mode for most of the year. In April I joined in the 100DayProject and the topic I chose this year was Christmas ornaments (do have a look at the hashtag #100DaysOfCrochetOrnaments on Instagram).

Summer Tablecloth – SommerlicheTischtücher

Dear friends,

mid July Maya (The Little Treasures) wrote a post about the „FlowerPounding Technique“. I was immediately intrigued by this technique, but couldn‘t try it as I didn‘t have any alum powder. By the time the powder arrived I was busy with other things. Yesterday I finally was able to give it a go.

Little Thistle (free pattern) – Kleine Distel (Anleitung)

Dear friends,

on Sunday I felt a bit frustrated. I had finished eight crochet Christmas hearts the night before and I wasn‘t happy about the amount of time it had taken me to get them done.

An thus I didn‘t feel like making Christmasstars, nor did I feel like making Christmasbaubles either. In fact I haven‘t got that many baubles left and therefore the colour-schemes I can turn to are rather restricted and I do not like restrictions at all.

Striped Sweater – Gestreifter Pulli

Dear friends,

when you‘re following me on Instagram (or an facebook) you will have seen this picture shortly before we went on holidays to Scotland.
I was glad I took the striped sweater along, cause I was able to wear it a few times and I grew really fond of it. First of all because it‘s comfy and warm and secondly because it‘s so joyously colourful without being too loud.

Scotland 2019 – Schottland 2019

Dear Friends,

Strathy Point Lighthouse
we‘re back since more than a week now, but I still haven‘t really arrived here yet. It feels a bit awkward to call this home, cause I feel more at home in Scotland than I actually do where I live.

We‘ve only been away for 12 days, but it feels as if the holiday has been much longer. Unlike last year we hadn‘t jam-packed our days and just enjoyed „let‘s see what the day brings“.

#100DayOfCrochetOrnaments (Part III / Teil 3)

Day / Tag 60

Dear friends,

The #100DayProject days 41 till 60. We have passed the half-time mark and are now nearing the finish line one step at a time. True: day 100 is still miles away!

#100DayOfCrochetOrnaments (Part II / Teil 2)

Dear friends,

unbelievable! The #100DayProject challenge is already running for 40 days. And it no longer feels weird crocheting Christmas ornaments in the middle of spring either. After all, I'm keeping busy with a few other things too. Dyeing wool for instance and crocheting thistles.

And I Still Haven‘t Found What I‘m looking For...*

Dear Friends,

this weekend I spent some time in the witches‘ kitchen intending to conjure a colourway I would make the second version of my Summer Tee with (see previous post)…

Summer Tee – Sommerpulli

Dear friends,

Hurray for the Easter Bank Holidays! I was a pretty busy bee and as all was either wool, yarn or crochet related, it was tremendous fun.

On Friday night I finally started a summer tee for me. I had dyed the yarn (a cotton-wool-silk mix) in March, but …

#100DayOfCrochetOrnaments (Part I / Teil 1)

Dear friends,

I know it‘s weird to make crochet Christmas ornaments in Spring – just ask me! Christmas ist still many months away and the world outside my window finally turned into Spring-mode. The dull garden suddenly is full of flowers and colours and I‘m either indoors or on the patio industriously stitching away humming „Jingle Bells...“.

Thistle Cushion - Distelkissen

Dear friends,

true, I haven‘t been around much in blogland. I did tend to post to when I had something to show, but in fact, I do not even stick to this rule anymore either. Day job has become very demanding and I haven‘t got much energy left in the evening to do too many things. And there are a lot of things needing my attention daily, e.g. my Etsy-shop. (BTW: I‘ve now got a whole new range of Scottish / Celtic / British stitch markers and Cross Stitch Kits and still loads of ideas for crochet goodies)

Little Flowers – Kleine Blumen

Little flowers never worry
When the wind begins to blow.
And they never, never cry
When the rain begins to fall.“
                                                                                                    Heritage Singers

Dear friends,

I stumbled upon this song by coincidence. A bit antiquated, but I thought it fitting, cause we (at least on the Northern hemisphere) are longing for spring: no more snow, no more torrential rainfalls, no more storms…

Spring Garland with February Coaster – Frühlingsgirlande

Dear friends,

as soon as I saw the cute garland Sandra of Reflections & Nature made (see here), I knew the living room could do with one too. The living room being rather large, pastels just wouldn‘t do. So I needed strong, vibrant colours. Picking colours at random out of my stash, putting them in some kind of order, I ended up with a rainbow. Suited me fine.

I LOVE YOU

Dear friends,

the hubby‘s ailment completely took me us by surprise and somewhat threw us off track. And it blatantly made plain how much I depend on him, how important he is to me and my well-being and which huge part he plays in my life.
