Summer Tablecloth – SommerlicheTischtücher

Dear friends,

mid July Maya (The Little Treasures) wrote a post about the „FlowerPounding Technique“. I was immediately intrigued by this technique, but couldn‘t try it as I didn‘t have any alum powder. By the time the powder arrived I was busy with other things. Yesterday I finally was able to give it a go.

Luckily I had had a look around the garden beforehand and though there are many plants and flowers blooming, I wasn‘t quite so sure whether I could use any of them. Just to make sure I bought two Pelargoniums on my way home from day job, one pink coloured, the other salmon-pink.

The evening before I had prepared four cloths with Alum. One of the cloths became a trial-and-error piece. I achieved the best results with the last few purplish-pink Phloxs out of our garden and with the Pelargonium petals. The Agapanthus wasn‘t bad either, the Helianthus on the other hand was rather disappointing, as well as the variety of leaves I tried. The Pelargonium leaves proved to be the best in the end but I didn‘t use them on any of the three „master-pieces“.

Trial-and-error

You‘ll find links to brilliant how-tos in Maya‘s post, but this is how I made the three sober tablecloths:
- prepare cloth with alum, let dry, iron
- place petals upside-down on cloth
- fix with masking tape
- hammer
- remove masking tape
- let dry

I haven‘t washed the cloths yet – which I should to get rid of the Alum, but they are so pretty, I want to enjoy them a little while before I dare washing them. But as soon as I have, I will tell you whether the pretty flowery imprints remained or disappeared.

I‘ll keep in touch!

Liebe Freunde,

Little Thistle (free pattern) – Kleine Distel (Anleitung)

Dear friends,

on Sunday I felt a bit frustrated. I had finished eight crochet Christmas hearts the night before and I wasn‘t happy about the amount of time it had taken me to get them done.

An thus I didn‘t feel like making Christmasstars, nor did I feel like making Christmasbaubles either. In fact I haven‘t got that many baubles left and therefore the colour-schemes I can turn to are rather restricted and I do not like restrictions at all.

Having something completely different in mind (a shawl to be precise) I took a ball of yarn out of my box of leftovers and just tried something… This something turned out to look pretty much like a thistle…

So I grabbed some yarn in the proper shades and made this beauty…

You may not have the same soft spot for Scotland as I have and thus you may not be that fond of thistles either, but just in case you‘d fancy making one too, here are the instructions:

Material:
- yarn in green and pinkish-purple
- corresponding hook
- darning needle and scissors

Abbreviations:
- ch = chain stitch
- dc = double crochet
- dc2tog = 2 dc stitched together (decreasing one)
- dtr = double trebble
- picot = made out of ch 2 and 1 dc

Instructions:
ch 5
R1: 5 dc
R2: 2dc + 3x 1dc + 2 dc
R3: 2 dc + 5x 1 dc + 2 dc
R4-7: 9x 1 dc
R8: 1 dc + 1 dc2tog + 3 dc + 1 dc2tog + 1 dc
R9: 1 dc + 1 dc2tog + 1 dc + 1 dc2tog + 1 dc
R10: 3 dtr + 3 dtr + 1 dtr + 3 dtr + 3 dtr
R11: 5x (1 dc + 1 picot + skip 1 stitch) + 1dc

You can either turn the thistles into a brooch or use them as an appliqué and sew them upon a bag, a pocket, a cushion,…

Happy crocheting!

I‘ll keep in touch!

Today's post #100DaysOfChristmasOrnaments

Liebe Freunde,

Material:
- Garn in grün und rosa-lila
- entsprechender Haken
- Stopfnadel und Schere

Abkürzungen:
- Lm = Luftmasche
- fM = feste Masche
- 2zuabfM = 2 zusammen abgemaschte feste Maschen
- dStb = Doppelstäbchen
- Picot = aus Lm 2 + 1 fM

Anleitung:
5 Lm
R1: 5 fM
R2: 2 fM + 3x 1 fM + 2 fM
R3: 2 fM + 5x1 fM + 2 fM
R4-7: 9x 1 fM
R8: 1 fM + 2 zuabfM + 3 fM + 2 zuabfM + 1 fM
R9: 1 fM + 1 fM2tog + 1 fM + 1 fM2tog + 1 fM
R10: 3 dStb + 3 dStb + 1 dStb + 3 dStb + 3 dStb

Little Flowers – Kleine Blumen

Little flowers never worry
When the wind begins to blow.
And they never, never cry
When the rain begins to fall.“
                                                                                                    Heritage Singers

Dear friends,

I stumbled upon this song by coincidence. A bit antiquated, but I thought it fitting, cause we (at least on the Northern hemisphere) are longing for spring: no more snow, no more torrential rainfalls, no more storms…

Spring Garland with February Coaster – Frühlingsgirlande

Dear friends,

as soon as I saw the cute garland Sandra of Reflections & Nature made (see here), I knew the living room could do with one too. The living room being rather large, pastels just wouldn‘t do. So I needed strong, vibrant colours. Picking colours at random out of my stash, putting them in some kind of order, I ended up with a rainbow. Suited me fine.

I LOVE YOU

Dear friends,

the hubby‘s ailment completely took me us by surprise and somewhat threw us off track. And it blatantly made plain how much I depend on him, how important he is to me and my well-being and which huge part he plays in my life.

Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer…

Dear friends,

just four more nights to go till it‘s Christmas. Isn‘t that exciting? Now that I‘m ready with the accounts for the business part of Atelier Marie-Lucienne, I‘m really looking forwards to it. I love the Christmas time, the sparkle, the tree, the music, the candlelight, the fairy lights, the cards, …

An apple a day keeps the doctor away…

Dear friends,

I do not totally agree with this saying, cause: I do eat an apple a day (from the apple tree in my parents‘ garden) and I still caught a cold. Nothing too bad, but you know how it feels…

Myriads of Stars - Sternenhimmel

Dear friends,

you might remember I took part in the Friendly Challenge N°106, hosted by Mia. It was so much fun I asked Ana, who is hosting the Friendly Challenge N°107, if I could take part here too. The topic being „Preparing Christmas“, I simply could not resist.

I thought of a few projects, actually started three, but I‘ll only share this one with you.

Thank you for the Music (with Chart / mit Vorlage)

Dear Friends,

as I told you in my last post, Mum&Dad came to stay with us last weekend. We had a pretty busy two days though, visiting Aachen and going out for a lovely dinner at our favurite Italian restaurant (where we all ate too much).

When my mum&dad left on Sunday, pretty soon after our late breakfast, I went into the studio and all of the suddenly I remembered Mia.

Mia (craftartista) is hosting the Friendly Challenge N° 106. And when she asked me whether I‘d fancy taking part, I agreed, cause we bloggers should support one another whenever possible, shouldn‘t we?

Garden Owl Pattern - Anleitung Garteneule / Ups and Downs

Dear friends,

this week hasn’t been a happy one so far. On Monday we had to say goodbye to Kolumbus, who has been a faithful companion and important part of our family. He and his brother MacLeod (passed away two years ago) saw us through a very tumultuous part of our lives. He was the quieter one, the placid one, a real family-cat, always somewhere near, always there, but now he’s gone, after 12,5 years…

Crochet Owl Cushion for Tim – Gehäkeltes Eulenkissen für Tim

Dear friends,

actually, the pillow is for Tim‘s wife. Tim is one of my colleagues at my day job and he loves crafting with wood. When I found out a few months ago, I asked him whether he could maybe make me a swift. He said it would take a while, but he’d like to give it a try.

The week before last I got this beauty!

Rainbow Snails - Regenbogenschnecken

Dear friends,

don‘t quite know whether I‘m happy with what I managed this week. Each „one hour of“ kind of turned out into uploading a few stitch markers onto my Etsy shop. Not too bad, as I still had time to spend crocheting, but…

Even though you might think these snails have been with me all week – I have to disappoint you: I worked on a shawl with that gorgeous Wensleydale yarn I bought in Oban. I‘m on my last ball (and colour) now, it still has to be blocked, and then I will be able to show it to you. Ah well, here‘s a sneak peek…

Sheep Key Pendant / Schlüsselanhänger Schaf

Dear friends,

I‘m getting on pretty well with the one-hour-per-day schedule. As long as ordering new supplies counts as one hour of concentrated and thorough working on a subject…

And if not, who cares? I made stitch markers, stitch marker cards, crocheted, made pictures, tidied up the studio (err 😹) and … even wrote a blogpost (well, I‘m still at it – right?).

Bohemian Rhapsody* Placemats

Dear friends,

oh dear! Nearly a month has gone by without a blogpost other than the one of the Granny-Spiration Link-Up Party… This actually shocks me, as I never intended on letting day job taking over my life this drastically, but it did somehow.

True, we had two busy weekends in between. On the first weekend of August the hubby and I took the weekend off. Margit Hoffmann of Alte Künste had a summer get-together at her place in Rheinland-Pfalz and we took the opportunity to have some quality time together.

"Sheherazade Blue" or/oder " The Keep It Simple Sweater"

Dear friends,

last week, as well as last weekend have been pretty busy (again). And that's why I only write about my newest make today, even though I already finished it on Thursday evening...

A few weeks back Michelle from Dora Does was looking for pattern testers for „The Keep It Simple Sweater“. By chance this coincided perfectly with me looking for a project to test my own hand-dyed yarn with.

Beads Bag (with how-to) – Perlentasche (mit Anleitung)

Dear friends,

last Saturday I was hoping the postman would bring me the supplies I ordered for making new stitch markers, but he (actually last Saturday it was a lady postman) brought these instead.

True, I had ordered these beads too, but I wasn't really waiting for them impatientently. I had been tempted to make something with beads ever since I scrolled past a video of Naztazia on my facebook feed, so I ordered some, just in case I would feel like eventually, but…

Garden Mandala – Garten Mandala

Dear friends,

yesterday afternoon, it was nearly 6 pm, I suddenly felt like making a few madalas for the front garden. You might remember last year's yarnbombing (here and here), which was mostly in pale blues, soft pinks and purples and greens. Everything is still there, a tiny bit faded maybe, but definitely lacking brightness and vivacity.

Progress - Fortschritte

Dear friends,

I'm finally getting somewhere. Well at least I've got the feeling things are finally moving on. It started with the dyeing experiment (which will continue next week) and it ended with pattern-writing.

Episode 4 + C2C Fox Cushion / C2C Fuchskissen

Dear friends,

🐑🐰Happy Easter!🌷🐣

You might know by now that I've got a soft spot for foxes. Even though I have, you never could have told by my crochet, could you? That's why I decided on making a fox cushion approx. three weeks ago.
