The New Room - Das Neue Zimmer

Working on the new look of the blog got me thinking about how Atelier Marie-Luciennel came about. You might have read part of the story here, but there‘s more to it.

November 2014 the first member of our patchwork-family moved out and I turned the smallest room in the house into a studio, into my creative space. Since December I do not just have a bigger room at my disposal, I in fact have a second workspace.

At first I thought I‘d move the studio into the room my youngest had just vacated, but I soon knew this wasn‘t an option really (you would agree if you could see the studio and all that is in it).

It was much more sensible to defuse the cramped situation by moving parts of the studio into the new room without immediately filling it. Although I’m doing a good job at doing exactly this: filling the room. But I now have a second workspace and thus a lot more room to breath and be creative.

I haven't named that room yet. It's no longer Danilo's room (my youngest), but it neither is the second studio, the photography room nor the evening room. It's all of it really, and as it's got a comfy chair (no room for anything alike in the studio), I do like to spend the evenings there.

And I have developed a new ritual: every evening when I retire to the new room (argh! I definitely need to think of a better name!) to use that short space of time before going to bed to crochet, I light one of the delicious scented tea-lights created by Sarah May (Let There Be Light) for which I designed the Starthistle Tea-Light Holder. I know that I am privileged to have my own workspace! I remember only too well what it feels like to fill gaps: here half a shelf, there a box under the stairs and an overflowing basket next to the sofa. And that‘s why I really and truly appreciate it!

BTW: I made this canvas to decorate the new room (I definitely must get a better name for it). A bit chinzy, definitely romantic and I quite like the way the Lucienne‘s Summer Mandala (err… the first part of the mandala!) stands out. No offence, but I'm a little curious: Do you have a workspace or a space/room/corner you can call your own?

die Arbeit am neuen Erscheinungsbild des Blogs hat mich dazu gebracht, über die Anfänge von Atelier Marie-Lucienne nachzudenken. Vielleicht haben Sie die Geschichte hier gelesen, aber da steckt mehr dahinter.

Im November 2014 zog das erste Mitglied unserer Patchwork-Familie aus, und ich verwandelte den kleinsten Raum im Haus in ein Studio, in meinen kreativen Raum. Seit Dezember steht mir nicht nur ein größeres Zimmer zur Verfügung, sondern ich habe sogar einen zweiten Arbeitsraum.

Zuerst dachte ich, dass ich das Atelier in das Zimmer meines Jüngsten umziehen würde, aber ich wusste bald, dass dies eigentlich keine Option war (ihr würdet mir zustimmen, wenn ihr das Atelier und alles, was darin ist, sehen könntet).

Viel sinnvoller war es, die beengte Situation zu entschärfen, indem ich Teile des Ateliers in den neuen Raum verlegte, ohne ihn sofort zu voll zu stopfen. Obwohl ich genau darin extrem erfolgreich bin: Im vollstopfen des neuen Zimmers. Spaß beiseite, ich habe jetzt einen zweiten Arbeitsraum und damit viel mehr Raum, um zu atmen und kreativ zu sein.

Ich habe dieses Zimmer noch nicht benannt. Es ist nicht mehr Danilo‘s Zimmer (mein Jüngster), aber es ist auch nicht mehr das zweite Atelier, das Fotozimmer oder der Abendraum. Und genaugenommen ist es genau all das. Denn der Raum verfügt über ausreichend Tageslicht, um Fotos zu machen, und über einen bequemen Stuhl (im Atelier gibt es dafür sowieso keinen Platz), in dem ich gerne die Abende verbringe.

Und ich habe ein neues Ritual entwickelt: Jeden Abend, wenn ich mich in den neuen Raum zurückziehe, um die kurze Zeit vor dem Schlafengehen zum Häkeln zu nutzen, zünde ich eines der köstlich duftenden Teelichter an, die ich bei Sarah May (Let There Be Light) gekauft habe. Ihr erinnert euch, dass ich speziell für diese tollen Teelichte den Starthistle Teelichthalter entworfen habe? Den Pdf-Download erhaltet ihr in meinem Etsy-Shop.

Ich weiß, dass ich privilegiert bin, einen eigenen Arbeitsbereich zu haben! Aber, ich erinnere mich dennoch nur zu gut daran, wie es sich anfühlt, Lücken zu füllen: hier ein halbes Regal, dort eine Kiste unter der Treppe und da einen überquellenden Korb neben dem Sofa. Und deshalb weiß ich das ganze wirklich und wahrhaftig zu schätzen!

Übrigens: Diese Keilrahmen habe ich extra für das neue Zimmer angefertigt (ich brauche unbedingt einen besseren Namen). Ein bisschen kitschig, auf jeden Fall romantisch, und mir gefällt die Art und Weise, wie das Luciennes Sommer Mandala Lucienne (äh... der erste Teil des Mandalas!) hervorsticht. Nichts für ungut, aber ich bin schon ein wenig neugierig: Hat noch jemand einen Arbeitsbereich oder einen Raum/Raum/Ecke, den sie/er ihr/sein Eigen nennen kann?
