Yarnbombing (Part I / Teil 1)

Dear friends,

I simply cannot help it. There are so many non-crochet things on my plate lately I hardly get on with my plans and ideas. At least one project got started. I intended not to show you but glimpses (on facebook and instagram) but to wait till all is done will probably take ages...

We finally have got our front garden back to ourselves. Until recently it looked like this:

But now it finally starts looking like a garden again. True the lawn, the flowers and the perennials will take a while to recover, but it's a huge improvement to this time last month!

Isn't this a great opportunity to integrate some crochet into the garden. I hadn't so far and the hubby didn't mind really (as long as I do not exaggerate things – ME!!!??? Never!!!)

And that's what I've come up with so far...

One hardly notices anything, so: what shall I do next...? I'll keep in touch!

Liebe Freunde,

  1. Yarn bombing! What fun! I think my favourite is the granny squares on the metal pipe on the far left of your collage! I do like the jar lamps very much too!

  3. Marjan, you've turned that construction mess into a quaint and inviting space! I think the wreath is my favorite - But goodness, how to choose? All of your creations are lovely.
I was wondering what you would be doing with those crocheted flowers... But I never would have guessed all this! Congratulations on having your yard back. :)
    Have a happy week!

    1. Thank you, dear Jenny.
Last one to leave was my brother-in-law who had parked his excavator in our garden for nearly two months. We could have got things started a bit sooner, but he was supposed to get enough dirt to finally fill that hole completely and he was too busy elsewhere...
But now, things are nearly back to normal - except for the yarnbombing of course ;-). That's real fun and I'm sure if I go gently the hubby won't think I'm exaggerating...
      Have a lovely week,

  4. Wonderful, really!!! You've not exagerated at all! I especially like the rain pipe and the ball of flowers. Don't have an idea of what you can do next... or maybe... make a jacket for the borderstones ? Or only for a few stones?
You've done a good job, Marjan, as always :-)

Truth be told: the rain pipe is my favourite and there's a smaller one left in the corner to the bowfront... Guess that's where I'll end up next... Keeping to the same colour-scheme isn't exaggerating things either or is it?

And it's still getting more... ;-) I'm sticking to the same colour-scheme - that's not exaggerating things, or is it? Guess the hubby knows it's of little use to protest much...

Sounds like a great idea as decoration for a wedding reception. A little tea light in the jar and there's a lovely atmosphere!
As to yarnbombing - one actually does this on public places: park benches, mail boxes, traffic signs, a telephone booth, trees, even bridges (if you're on pinterest by chance: just search for yarnbombing)... But I thought it a good idea for the garden too...
Happy you like my little studio!

  8. Marjan, your garden looks like a part of a fairy world! I love your thoughtful crochet additions to it and those pops of colors do give it a character! Amazing! But I cannot help but worry thinking what will become of them if left on the rain. Are you going to bring in the ones that are portable (not the rain pipe, of couse) into the house in bad weather?

No, I'm not taking any of them inside. I made everything in 100% polyacryl yarn. They should be able to stand the rain. Sure, they will fade eventually, but... wouldn't that be a great opportunity to start it all over again ;-)?
      Have a lovely holiday,

  14. How lovely to have a nice space again. I love yarn bombing as an idea and to do it in your own space is such a fun way of bringing colour in before your plants recover. The granny square drain pipe is my favourite bit but I do love it all!

Herrlich was du alles gezaubert hast!

  19. This is awesome! I am so in love with the way you have decorated your garden/patio with crocheted items. I have been wanting to try my hand at DIY citronella candles as we like to sit outside and talk with our neighbors, and the mosquitoes appreciate us - hehe. I would also like to try covering my candles with cozies similar to yours. Pinned for inspiration.
I also really like the watering can cover - how creative! Would make a great gift for to a gardener.
